Hey, fellow chicken enthusiasts! I'm Joni, in far northern CA, on the coast. While my folks had chickens when I was a teen, I never really "got" the chicken fever until I started my own little flock, almost 2 years ago. I love looking out at my 10 hens free-ranging across our acre of land, doing their chicken thing. I love going out to the henhouse and bringing in a little rainbow of eggs. I feel a bit gratified when I go out in the back and yell, "Chickchickchickchick!" and the 10 girls come waddling/running/sorta flying over to see what treats I've got for them. And like watching a tank of fish, just sitting quietly and watching the chickens cruising around pecking, scratching, dust bathing (first time I saw a chicken doing this, I thought it was dying. Seriously. Lol...) is its own form of mental health therapy
.
I've loved reading on these forums; I've learned so much! And since I had a question that I need to post about my free-spirited Ameracauna/Easter Egger, I thought I'd better introduce myself
.
Joni in CA, w/ 2 Buff Orpingtons, 2 NH Reds, 3 RR Reds, and 3 Ameracaunas. Wish I had more room for more chickens, lol.
