Help! We're totally new to this!
My 5 year old and I drove over an hour away to pick up 4 female sex links last weekend (3 gold, 1 brown). My son picked his chickie, one of the golds, and just adores her. Well, now it's pretty obvious that something's up... While the other 3 have little puff wings, this one has wings down to his/her tail! We got them last Saturday at 1 day old and by the next morning her wings started growing and haven't stopped. I haven't noticed anything else really different (no different sounds or actions so far) but those wings are just giant compared to the others. I was told by other experienced chickeners (?) this means she's a he, so since many/most/all of y'all have had chickies... does it mean this? Do we have a roo?
Thing is, while our city allows chickens it has some strict rules: up to 4 hens, no roosters. Which is why we drove so far away to get sex link females when there are tons of chickies nearby. So if this is a rooster, he HAS to go, preferably sooner (before my son gets way too attached!).
So I guess my question is, do large, quickly developing wings automatically mean rooster? Or can it just be a fluke and she's really a she?
Since I'm new I can't post pics or links but I can take measurements if anyone wants to know
Thanks!
Megan (first time chickie mama just trying not to mess up!)
