New to this.

All of this is new to me. I am from North Carolina and I have never raised chickens before or joined a forum. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Most of my questions pertain to what the necessities are for a coup. I plan to raise my chickens free range in a large pen for the most part, however, I know they will need a place to get out of rain and away from preditors.

A great place to start is the Learning Center link below - the tabs within contain the info you need to raise a safe, healthy, and happy flock. One bit of advice on predators...invest in hardware cloth!
