New to turkeys question on health

How does her poo look? If she has Blackhead her poo will be runny with bright yellow urates. If she has cocci it will be at least runny, and more then likely have some blood in it too.

I will go back and observe them all, including my chickens. I have not noticed anything unusual in any of their droppings it's the first thing Iook at each morning and the last thing at night. Thank you for the reminder

I would not personally.
Blackheads is soil Bourne. If it's there it will be there. To see if it is a problem in your area check with your local extension office.

Cocci has some symptoms that will show. Listlessness, head pulled in, standing with feathers ruffled, eyes closed, wings dropped. But most times by the symptoms show for this it is fatal.

Ok. So if there is black head, there's nothing really to do. Medication for it means lifetime withdrawal so that's not going to happen, I may as well see if that's what it is, to see if they pull through or if they get worse to cull them. I don't think black head or Coccidiosis is the case here, none of any of the flock are are showing those symptoms.

Do you typically treat for Coccidiosis if there are no symptoms, as a preventative measure, or is that not recommended?

And once again, thank you for your time and input. It really is appreciated.

Isaiah, your hens are horny. Sorry to be blunt. If they were sick they would symptoms similar to what Feedman pointed out. My hens will change head colors depending on their moods. I think your girls are fine. Sounds like your new to turkeys. They sure are different from chickens. In my opinion, more fun, friendlier and have tons of personality! Enjoy!

Considering your birds have been there for awhile and you have species that are susceptible to blackheads and they seem fine I would rule that out.

I would rule out cocci for now generally first symptoms to dead are within 48 hours.

To get most meds to treat for either used to be able to be bought at animal health depots. But now most need a vet approval. So I don't treat any.

I believe the hens are fine just feeling frisky.

If you can find them a tom

On Blackhead - I have it here on my property in East TN. My older birds have never gotten it, Turkeys have much greater immunity to it after they are 8 months old.
My poults all get it though, around 8-10 weeks of age. I treat them with Metronidazole.
It is not approved for use in poultry, so there is no set withdraw time. I always wait 4 months before eating birds that have been treated.

Honestly though, I agree with the other posters - it sounds like your hen just needs a tom. If she has blackhead she will have the bright yellow runny poop.

Thank you everyone for your kind assistance and direction. Yes, I am new to Turkeys as my thread is titled. They were left behind last November, when we moved here, by the previous owner along with 4 ducks, 36 chickens, 3 peafowl, about 20 pigeons 1 jersey cow and 2 Vietnamese pigs and other than the chickens, were totally unexpected. I've learned a lot about animals I had no interest in or have found homes for them. After a long hard winter here I lost 1 chicken to a hawk. So with the help of people like you I have learned a lot, have discovered a love for chickens but learned I really don't want ducks, turkeys or peafowl right now, as much as I care for them I get too attached. I am grateful for your direction and advice. Thank you, thank you, thank you. And I wish there had been more information available on the care and habits of turkeys online (other than how to cook them ). I would not have had to bother you all for help. In the meantime, thank you for your kind assistance!
