hey there!! I have 6 hens and live not in a rural but also not urban area. We are stuck in the middle. I have really missed the farm life so on a whim my wonderful husband got me some chicks. Who were then murdered by a hawk three weeks later. I replaced them the next day where they lived in our garage until he built Ft Chickknox. So far we’ve seen the hawks and a very large barred owl. No caisialities so far. The girls are 4 months old now and HUGE. I would love to have others to talk to.

:frowHi there and welcome to BYC.
That was a really rough start! I’m sorry.
Also so glad you tried again!

I’m a sub-urban chicken keeper. Even in a neighborhood we face predator issues.

This is a great place to make friends and learn from other chicken keepers all around the world, many of whom are experts and more than willing to lend a hand.
I’m glad you found us!

Another suburban chicken keeper here! I am minutes from a city, but have hawks, coyotes, foxes, raccoons and lots of nearby dogs. I started with a box of chicks this spring too and ended up with six pullets and a surprise cockerel. My sweet, awkward teenage boy loves to crow, and I'm hoping he grows out of it before the neighbors really start complaining!

That's a tough way to get started with chickens. So sorry you went through that. But at least you now have a nice safe place to watch your new flock grow!
Mine are also at 16 weeks and I too can't believe how big they are! It's such great fun just watching them.
:weeWelcome to BYC!! :wee
