We bought 6 chicks (2 barred rock, 2 rhode island red, and 2 new hampshire) this spring and have been having a blast! We have 5 growing hens (one was a rooster and had to send him to a country home). They have started to lay in the past few weeks which has brought us unparalleled joy! Happy to find a site to be able to learn more about this beneficial pastime. I have them on a 'natural' layer feed. Debating on going organic, but, of course, there is the cost. I have a local source for 50# bags for $30, which is considerably less than much of what others have said they have found. Here's to fun and sustainability!
