My boyfriend and I want to raise chickens in our backyard. We have started our coop and wantcto have around 6 hens for egg purposes only. While we have a general knowledge on how to raise them, we are unsure of permits that we might need before getting our chickens. Any information would be helpful. Going online to find this information has proven unlucrative.

You don't need any permits to raise poultry in Ware county or within Waycross city limits. You just have to make sure your birds do not become a public nuisance and/or generate public complaints. Some Home Owner Associations (HOAs) have their own restrictions, but if you don't live in an HOA, don't worry about it.

Below is a link to the Waycross Ordinance 11-12 regarding animals. If you look on page 10, section 6-21 (f) under Prohibited Animals, you will see that poultry are not listed among prohibited animals, so happy chickening!
