hi from the Kenai Peninsula.

Lots of Alaskans on here, we have members in Nome, North pole, Dillingham, Homer, Kodiak, Valdiez, and the Palmer Wasilla area. If your in South east we'll have the entire state covered!

Welcome!!! Adult chickens do quite well in the extreme cold, it's the young whippersnappers you have to watch out for! But we're here for you if you have questions!!

Awsome so see alaskans on here!! I am in north pole, I have a feeling my baby chicks will be in the house for long time if the wheather here dont warm up soon lol. But I have back up plan and nice shed I can put them in when they older then 5 weeks with accsess to heating light. We dont plan on build coop till the snow is at least melting or gone. Any timps on how you keep your chickens warm in the winter?

Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain I love your guys website! You have some beautiful birds.

We bought 10 Buff Orpington and 10 Rhode Island Reds. 5 cornish slow growing. Like I said we are new to this so we are starting small. I am soo tempted though to go to the feed store and buy more becuase thier stock comes in sooner then mine hehe!! 28 days is going by sooo slowwww. I have chicken fever I tell ya I have been reading this and other websites all week!

Thanks!

Mrs. AK-Bird-Brain have a couple quetions. I know we get alot colder then you guys do but do you use some type of heating sorce in the winter in the coops? Also i know of a lady here and she had like 30 chickens in a small shed type coop and I think they would need much more room then that. Any tips on making these birdies more comfortalbe in the winter?

Do you think 25 baby chicks is too much for someone like me just learning? I have till middle of next week to change my order. We do plan on eating a couple and you also want to have the opps one got eatin or died and plan on couple being roos I am also wanting all those eggs!! so i figured 25 would be good start well that what the guy at feed store told me lol but you know ppl will say anything to sell somthing hehe. Hope im not bugging you lol.
