Hi I am Michelle A. and I am just getting into having chickens. We are allowed 4 chickens in our city and are building our own coop. My poor husband (the builder) keep being bombarded with information from me about the coop. We are building a 48" x 25" coop with 43" walls on one side and 34" on the other (so that I can clean it) with a slant roof that will lift for cleaning, tractor style.
We don't have our chickens yet but my friend who is giving them to us says they are a "mutt" breed. We have two cats and new to rural life, but very excited to be doing this. We live in Eastern WA Columbia Basin where to wind blows all of the time. Looking forward to learning a lot from you all.

A 2x4 coop is rather small, especially if you plan to keep the full 4 birds you are allowed. ....that is about 1/2 the size you really need.....how far into the build are you?

I was thinking the exact same thing.
Very small.
