Hi y'all!! I'm from the mountains in rural north Georgia. I have 5 ladies, No roo. They are my loves. I understand a lot of there language by spending time with them.
I've had these hens for 2 yrs. It's crazy suddenly a yr ago I started seeing the spot for fertilized eggs!! Again no roo and no one crows.
3 wks ago I had one go broody. She sat for 3 wks until suddenly she started pushing eggs out of her box. ( I had already candles them and saw none were viable).
I was going to reward her efforts by substituting baby chicks from Tractor Supply. Every Wed I went someone had came in and bought all.Grrr... I got wise and decided to go early the next week. Lo and behold they stopped getting chicks! I had to trash the explosive eggs. IM afraid to get more because of the grain issue. I can not let them out to forage now since they eat out of my much need garden.
My first question is how can I feed them if our economy tanks and I run out of grain?!
I have bought a few extra bags of their grain. They love it now that I have figured out a quick and easy ferment method.
2nd question is if my hens are girls then who is fertilizing them?
