Hi. I am Sharon from the White Mountains of NH and am helping my daughter run a small hobby chicken farm. Today we introduced our newest 4 chicks to a group slightly older than them, outside in an enclosed and covered run. We were so happy at how well they all got along...and then tragedy struck. A hawk attacked through the mesh of the side of the run and grabbed the smallest chick. She was too large to be pulled out but in attempting to do so the hawk inflicted serious and lethal harm on our poor little chick. I am joining the group in hopes of learning more about raising chickens to that I can protect ours better.

Thank you. It is the 1"x 3" welded mesh that comes with the runs on the EGLU coops

Welcome to BYC! Sorry for the loss of your chick. Hardware cloth is a good fortifier over top of the welded wire.
