I Just Got New Turkeys About 7 Days Old Can I Feed Them Chicken Starter? Or Do They Need Something Else?

I am no expert but would go with a 28 to 30% protein medicated turkey or gamebird starter. The medication is for cocci which poults are quite vulnerable to. Chicken starter is too low in protein and if medicated might be very bad for your birds depending on the specific Med. That being said almost any high quality nonmedicated crumble or mash will do for a day or two if that is all you have available.

Turkeys do better with a starter feed that has 27-28% protein until about 6 weeks. Game bird starter is good to start turkey poults on.

We use a medicated 28% Game bird starter for the first 8-ish weeks then we go to a 20% medicated start n grow untill they are old enough to join the flocks at 5 to 6 months old.
