My best friend and I have recently decided to convert her home into an urban homestead/farm stand. She had a pretty decent size flock of silkies years ago and I helped care for a flock of Orpingtons on a vineyard a few years ago as well. We took in a mixed flock of big girls(welsummer, a dark Brahma, two astrolorps, two EE’s, a bantam Cochin, and a buff Orpington) a few months ago and just got Three new Silkie and three bantam cochins for the garden flock. Our bantam Cochin in the big flock went broody with no good eggs and we tried the adoption method and failed.
So far I THINK we have one Silkie roo and two hens(yes I know it’s WAY too early to tell on these tricky ones), and I have one really fast feathering Cochin compared to the others. They’re supposed to be blue silkies and blue Cochin bantams
If we do have a Roo in our cochins I’m hoping we can hatch some EE/bantam Cochin crosses to get some pretty birds and blue eggs!

) and a lot of feather loss from a mean roo but they’re molting now and we’ve gotten the mites under control and everyone is healing nicely!
