Hi,
I had this black young rooster being curious as to why many chickens come into our yard. First day just was in front of the driveway. 2nd day 1/4 driveway in. Then later in the afternoon, one of the roosters chased him away. Yesterday again one of the roosters chased um across the road. Later in the afternoon finally came close. He has feathers growing on his legs, short tail. beard(?) small and crown(?) small. I gave hime some scratch feed. This morning he was on a chair in the carport. Then wenton top of one of the bags. I went up and gently talked to him. Got close but he didn't want to eat from my hand just yet. I'll expect him to come back ater this afternoon. Hope he stays around. So what is he?

If you intend to keep him quarantine him first. A minimum of 30 days as far from your flock as humanly possible. Better safe than sorry.

I can only guess someone dumped him if they had too many cockerels.

He is from down the street. Yes he is handsome. Double black toes? I'll have to get closer to him and take pics. Heard him trying to crow. Still young so cute. :)
I have had other hens (2 black ones) and a rooster (the boss) visit and stay. The one on my lap hasn't had any chicks yet. She came around the same time the other black one did. All are feral, They come around to get feed. Some let me pet them.

Yes, I have some that go on my lap and a couple that will go up on my shoulders. The one hen in the right pic and a young rooster. Others do come up and feed from my hand too.
I wasn't able to get close to the new young visiting rooster to take a look at its toes. They are black. The boss rooster chased him off. I'll see if he comes around tomorrow morning.

Oh I did a trash run and at the transfer station, there are chickens. I saw one 5-6 week old white chick with its mom and it has feathers on its legs , short tail and big head. The mom does not look like that at all So I guess mix. Couldn't take a pic. Pretty busy there.
