New Welsummer babies

I think I paid like $30.00 to have 12 shipped last year....I hatched two babies earlier this week....I think Brewster is a bit overwelmed with all his girls and most of our eggs were not fetile.. maybe next time I'll have more to give away

Have you tried Belt?I have some 6 1/2 week old Welsummers that I got at a local feed store, I'm so impatient for them to start laying....

Never heard of them, but looked them up on the 'net. They are in California and I am in Virginia, so three days shipping. They have worse shipping charges than any other I have checked out. Not only do you have to order a minimum of 25 chicks, they have to be the same breed and sex or they add on a big "boxing" charge. You can't order 23 pullets and two roos of the same breed without being charged extra. If you really mix up the breeds and sexes, they go crazy with boxing charges. I'll keep looking, but thanks.

Ideal also adds a charge if you have less than a 1/4 box of a variety/sex...

I've got an order coming in June from Belt, but otherwise just know feed stores around here that order from them. It's easier for us since it's the closest hatchery.

Meyer does have them available pretty quickly again, but their shipping is the highest I've ever paid before. Ideal is the hatchery I usually use, but they are out of stock until fall.

I think Meyer was the one that wanted $35 to ship six chicks! OUCH!

Well.... yes the shipping on these 10 was MORE than the chicks, but we wanted them now instead of the fall.

No he is really bad... he flies at me with his feet....hit me in the chest the other day.. almost knocked me over... we have tried everything to break him... but we don't have kids and he keeps the curious out of the pen.. and yes he is a beautiful boy... and very funny. . .Let me say they are well worth the extra money... you should just order 12 because you are going to want more.. my hens are such lovely ladies, sweet natured and social.... they are not cuddly like the silkies but will gently take treats from your hand. I wish you luck

Thanks for the heads-up about Estes Hatchery. The Welsummer chicks are a little pricey, but they make up for it with very reasonable shipping rates. Their guarantee is really good. I will be able to get my barred rocks and a few BOs to go along with the Welsummers to make up my 25 chick order.

Anyone get decent speckled eggs from hatchery Wellsummers? I've read Estes has good quality Wellies, but they're sold out for the season. Belt will have some soon, but I've not been able to find much feedback on them, especially regarding their wellies...
