Hello. I'm a new owner from Wisconsin. I've thought about chickens for a long time and now I'm excited to have a new flock.
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Yes, this summer. I've wanted to get chickens for many years but they were more of a commitment than I was sure I could make at the time. This year I had some projects going on at home that opened up some acreage for a coop so I took the plunge. I'm still working on the coop but things are going well.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
10. I bought a mix of 8 this summer from my local feed mill, then added a young legbars a couple months later from a local breeder.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Creme Legbar, Spitzhauben, Australorp, Mystic Marans, Easter Egger, Americauna
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Fresh eggs from chickens whose food source I control.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Beekeeping, Running, Fishing, Woodworking.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
My kids are mostly grown. Have a herding dog who loves the chickens. Hoping I can teach her to herd them a bit when they're free ranging.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found this many years ago and lurked for a while. Finally took the plunge this year and got chickens so figured I should officially join.
