Hi all,

My name is Sabrina, I am from Quebec, Canada. I know there must be some Quebec chicken sites, but this one is so nice and plenty of information that I have been coming here everyday for the last few weeks to read the articles!

I studied (and worked for a few years) as a vet assistant. I love animals. I am buying a house in the country and I am allowed to have chickens, so now I am trying to learn as much as possible before I move in, in less than 2 months.

There is already a little shed that I would love to convert into a coop. I will start by finishing that project before I adopt my chicks, of course ;)

So, happy to be here with you and learn about chickens, it is really exiting!!! I will try to get then as eggs, I have already incubated some eggs in the past. I remember when I was about 15, we had a few hatchings. One was a rooster, and we kept him for a LONG TIME! He was always in the house with us, and we would bring him outside (always in our sight). He always slept indoors ;)

He was super nice, me and my dad remember that we could watch movies with him sleeping on our knees. He wouldn't poop, and he loved beeing pet. So of course, I will probably love mi chickens as much as I love that little rooster, and I will not eat them, haha. I will keep them for company and for the eggs, unless I really have to take a cruel decision :(.

I guess my main problem will be to sex the chicks and keep only the females, as I don't want a rooster. That will be the hard part, but I saw you had some pages on sexing and I read about it! Maybe I'll get some sex-linked chicks, for a first it will be easier.

Talk to you later,
Sabrina

! Happy to have you here! I know there are Canada links in the thread below - perhaps even one dedicated for Quebec. As to the sex-linked chicks - that is certainly a safer bet. Big hatcheries are usually also pretty good at sending the gender you request but mistakes do happen. Good luck to you and your poultry adventures.
