Hey guys, we were given quails by my father in law after he could no longer keep them. We have zero experience in keeping them at all. One female starting laying & i noticed she was sitting and after speaking to my father in law he said there was no way we would get babies because they don't sit on them. Anyway i did some research & done everything i could find to make female happy, this morning we have woken to 7 out of 8 hatched babies! I am super happy and really stoked! Is there anything i should be doing? Mother & father are being very protective, running away when i go near & huddling & sitting on the babies. Just wandering if i should leave them or if there is anything i should be doing. She nested outside the private area the have as they are in our big avery but she has taken them into the private area since hatching. Any help & advice really appriciated. Thanks Emma

I'm guessing these are button quail. Make sure that any watering dishes are shallow so the chicks don't' fall in and drown. Marbles can be put in deeper dishes to make them safe. The parents should be able to take care of their chicks. If there are other quail in the aviary watch to make sure they do not go after the chicks ad kill them. Good luck, Emma.

As far as i have been told they are japenese quail but i'm not 100% sure. Just managed to get a picture of a few of the babies.

the other quails there are 2 silver ones male & female and they are leaving them well alone which is good.
