New with some egg and behaviour related questions. Please help me.

Wheeww.. I got my chicken back .. my neighboor caught her which was pretty impressive because i live in a jungle-like enviorment..

They sleep in their medium size cage on a thick stick i cut from a tree..

People here (neighboors again) say all native phillipine hens get broody directly after laying a dozen eggs but ill have to see it first..

Thanks everyone for your help!

I'm still saving my first 5 eggs hehe.. its like gold to me

Guys I only have 1 hen so far that recently started to lay eggs but it seems she lay only 1 egg per 2 days..

5 eggs in 9 days so far.

is that normal? because its her first time? or is there another way to .. motivate her?

Perfectly normal. Most hens lay every two or three days, DEPENDING on the breed. Super egg layers will give you an egg almost everyday, but even they take a day off every once in a while. As a hen ages her production decreases also. Seasonal changes and molting will also affect egg laying. Feed your hen a well balanced layer formula, offer time to explore the outside and keep her happy. She will give back to you all she can!

It is natural for them all to lay on eachothers eggs. I would put up at least one more nesting box so the if you have 2 trying to lay at the same time they can. They won't hurt the eggs. Once and a while you may have a cracked one from someone stepping on them but that is normal. Welcome to BYC.

:welcome   I agree with BonRae67.

Also, many people put golf balls or some kind of fake egg in the nest to try to help a chicken become broody (want to sit on the eggs).  Not all chickens will do this and hatch eggs.  There is also no proven way to force one to sit on an egg.  The best you can do is make the conditions right.  Put the nest in a darkened space, for your number of birds, two nest should be fine and don't be surprised if all of them try to get in one nest at the same time.  Generally they don't poo too much in the nest.  Occasionally they will but somehow they naturally tend not to poo where they lay.

BTW:  There is a thread on here for folks from the Phillipines.  You can search it in the box above.  I don't remember the exact subject line.

ozpat is one of the folks on here that I know who is in the Phillipines.

About pooing in the nests, I put straw inside mine so if there's a bit of poop, I can simple pick it out with the surrounding straw. The straw keeps the poo from sticking to the box.
