Hey all,

I am building a woods fresh air coop and am wondering where you guys got your windows, both on the sides and awning windows on the upper section. Are you making windows? Buying used barn windows? Purchasing from a re-store?

There is no need to purchase NEW windows so I am curious to know what you guys have done. Completing the framing now so I want to make sure I size the openings correctly.

Thanks in advance.

I got mine new from shed-windows.com. I couldn't make them for the price and they had the sizes I wanted for my 6 x 10'. I couldn't find used ones in the right sizes and they were still super expensive.

Did you go with the transom style(not sure if these open?) or the crank out?

I purchased mine pre hung window from Amazon by Shed Windows and More. It was 14 x 21 inches and fit perfectly because my coop is a converted shed on 14 inch centers. It was really easy to install. I will be adding another in a few weeks to bring more light into the coop. It was about $25. Also, the chickens love looking out of it.

I bought the crank out ones for the monitor windows. They came in the exact 16" x 24" size suggested for the 6 x 10' woods.

I will presumably (?) have to rig up some sort of hardware cloth inside for extra screen protection but these seemed perfect to me. The 24 x 27" ones are sliders which I again will add some hardware cloth to the inside of.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I need to get on eBay and Craigslist. Nothing fancy is needed. Just something I can slide back and forth. I will send pictures of my progress so far later today.

I am a bit hesitant to frame more until I know the opening sizes.

In my currently-building-one experience, those monitor window sizes are really important as there isn't a lot of play room between the two roofs given that the monitor wall is your load bearing one and needs to be well build. The height of those windows should be well thought out. In hindsight I maybe should have used a 2 x 4 header above to give myself more room below, between the wall and the lower roof...

MiaS, That coop is coming together nicely. I wish I was that far along. I have chickens that need to get in my coop, like now. So praying for no rain and a productive Saturday. I sense I will be ram-rodding this thing to get it done.

I have been in contact with a couple of folks on Craigslist with some cheap windows that I plan to pick up tomorrow. My father-in-law overheard me talking about it and said he has some in his shed taking up space. I think tomorrow will tell the tale for my windows.

Didn't get a chance to post pictures today I will tomorrow or Saturday for sure. It is 8X14. Didn't want it very wide but wanted some depth.

Thanks for the input.

Chris
