I have six chicks and all has been great so far, one I noticed this afternoon has a wound on her back area. I haven’t seen the others pecking at her so idk if it’s them or her that’s done it but what’s best plan of action? She’s approx a month old.

Is she with any older chickens ?
Here’s what I do if I have any wounded birds

  1. For shallow wounds, wash the area with hot water and soap and gently pat dry, or clean the wound with hydrogen peroxide.

If the wound continues to bleed, use styptic powder or pressure to stop it.

  2. Flush the wounds with hydrogen peroxide, iodine, or betadine.

  3. Place the chicken in a clean, separate area and check the wounds for infection several times a day.

  4. If infection sets in, clean the wounds two to three times daily.

  5. If the chicken can’t reach the area with its beak and the weather is warm, apply a wound dressing to prevent flies from laying eggs on the wound.

She’s with two others her age and three one week older that have all been together since we got them. Thanks for the info, I’ll go through it and hopefully won’t get any worse. I wasn’t sure if there was wound care stuff I’d need to buy.

I had asked this before we went to town and by time we got back it was healed over. I had gotten some hydrogen peroxide spray while out and did some of that on it. Still was good this am and all day today I’ve been with them and she’s good to go for now.
