Please post some of your your new year's traditions or folklore and what it is said to bring to the new year. I know they are all different for various regions of the country and world.

Here in the south with my husbands family it is blackeye peas and collard greens for prosperity. In the north of my parents, corned beef, potatoes, carrots and cabbage for prosperity.

What do you do or have for the new year for traditions. Who knows, if they work, we may all benefit from you.

I heard Rick Steve talking w/ someone from Sicily on NPR last weekend. In Sicily they wear red underwear for the New Year for good luck.

So today I've got on red undies for the celebration. Not that anyone will know!

My family always has black-eyed peas and ham... well I do turkey ham, but basically the same thing.

Forgot to say that watching the Rose Parade is a must as well!

Back when I lived in Michigan I had a nut bug neighbor who's tradition was to fire everything in his home arsenal several times at midnight. Even though he knew I had to be up early for work the next day. He had some heavy ordnance.

I don't live there anymore.

Definitely the black eyed peas and hog jowl....my dad used to say if we would eat T Bone steaks on New Years and have peas the rest of the year, we might prosper!
