hi bycers
ever since i joined on january i been noticing something to be addressed. many rural/sub-urbanites from such communities seem to have this negative prejudice about nyc people and what we know about animals/bird/etc. a lot of the same comments in variations like :"what do them city people know about chickens","nyc dont raise livestock" or "dumb-tech city folk dont understand" blah blah blah...i been born/raised here 40 years, i raise jumbo coturnix in my apartment (founding flock purchased from my local poultry shop)and come to brooklyn/staten island/bronx/long island and you would all be astonished and the giant chicken-community and exotic creature-keeping culture down here. its a very well known culture to many except to you who stay hidden in your locales(not an insult at all, i pay attention to your discussions) and still dont know how to use an iphone/android app. i want to see an uprising on local city folk here educating all others on who we are and what we know so we can show you the very little dissimilarities between us all. OPEN YOUR MINDS INSTEAD OF YOUR UNFOUNDED OPINIONS, WE SHOULD ALL BE STICKING TOGETHER HELP US FIGHT THESE ZONING LAWS, THIS IS NOT A DEMOGRAPHICS WAR! Id love to hear from others on this matter, thank you all, and hatch well :)

I've never seen people outright insulting city people on here. Yes, we do poke fun at city people sometimes and make little jokes about them, usually after something funny happens like a city person who buys eggs from us asking a silly question or refusing to eat certain color eggs, etc. It's all in good fun and no one really means it, and of course we know that people in cities may own poultry or not be ignorant of chickens. No one really means it. There are many country people who don't know about poultry too, and we make jokes about them as well. It's all in good fun. I recently shipped a dozen eggs to NYC to someone who wanted to hatch. However, your post is insulting, stating that we must be ignorant country people who don't even know how to use smartphones. There is no need to insult people who live out in the country while berating them for insulting people who live in the city. That's hypocritical. The fact is, most people have no clue about poultry. It is what it is, and we lightly make fun of them with no seriousness intended.
