I bought some New Zealand breeders, but they have black ears. Is this a possible color for New Zealand bunnies, or are they a mix? If they are a mix, any ideas on what the other breed might be?
Your pictures are at a bit of an awkward angle (especially for a non-rabbit expert) but we had a few bunnies that looked like those when I was a kid. They were a medium-sized meat breed known as Californians.
Pic of California rabbit stolen from internet. He has larger, nicer markings than ours did.
Your rabbits are definitely not pure New Zealand. As @sylviethecochin said, they are probably Californian, or NZ/Cali crosses. A lot of people like crossing the two; hybrid vigor is supposed to make them more productive than purebreds, so these may work better for you than the animals you thought you were getting.
