Hi my name is Colleen
I am very new to BYC and new to chickens. I am still in the research stages. I am from MA about 30mins north of Boston, in the great old farm town of Topsfield. Where for one week a year it seems like everyone in the world comes to the Fair. When I first got the bug to be a chicken mom it seemed like it would be easy to get the ball rolling, my husband is a Carpenter so there is my coop, and there is a co-op in town so there is the food and other supplies. The problem is finding the chickens, I don't want to get chicks. I don't have the time to care of the needy little babies no matter how darn cute they are. I want to get Bantam pullets or adults ( hens ) . Is there anyone out there that can help me or point me in the right direction

You can find them on Craigs list, or check your state thread for upcoming get togethers or Chickenstocks.

Hi and welcome to BYC from Central Texas!
Here in Austin, we have a something called The Austin Backyard Poultry Meetup Group where people are always advertising free chickens. Usually, though, they are only getting rid of unwanted cockerels - it isn't often that pullets are advertised, but it does happen. See if there is anything similar in your area.
One yearly source of chickens, though they are usually still chicks when people are looking to give them away, is from the schools that often hatch eggs in the classrooms.
Another source could be year-old battery hens - big egg producers often discard the hens when they hit 1 year, though I doubt they would have bantams.
Best wishes.
