Hi, I'm new to the world of geese. I have 2 arriving tomorrow. I've been reading thru pages and pages of posts. I was just wondering if anyone had some tips for me. I already have ducks so I'm not new to waterfowl but are there anything with geese that I should know?

Thanks

Welcome to the world of geese! I am new to them as well, my two Toulouse (utility) goslings arrived yesterday! I love my ducks, but these are my first experience raising geese. The are a riot! They are already very attached! What type are your geese? What type of feed are you using, maybe we can compare notes :)

I'm not sure what I'm getting lol I wish I did. I ordered the Happy Cackle Special so I'm getting 21 chicks, 2 geese, 2 ducks, and 2 turkeys. I've been watching the tracking all day lol it says they are suppose to arrive tomorrow. Its been a long wait, I ordered back in Feb.
As for feed, I have Purina Flock Riaser that I'm feeding my 3 ( 1 1/2 week old) duckling right now. I've always fed Flock Raiser to my mixed flocks as babies so planned to feed the geese this as well. I do have liquid Vit B if needed for extra niacin.

Oh that is so exciting! It will be a fun guessing game, for sure. Please post pictures! My new goslings and ducklings are on Flock Raiser (20%) as well. I just started cutting protein on my Cayugas (over 2 weeks old) yesterday, with rolled oats. I too have the niacin supplement, just to be safe. I will cut the protein for the goslings as well, once they are old enough. I am slightly niacin deficiency and anglewing paranoid! :) Please post some pictures of the new ones when they arrive!

When does the protien need to be lessened. I've always given my ducks flock raiser until they were old enough for layer feed?

That is a great page that will show you the basic protein levels needed. I am strict about lowering the protein right now because my ducklings/goslings will not be able to be outside foraging until the New England weather cooperates! If yours have the opportunity to forage and get lots of greens, it may not be neccessary
Thanks for the link, I'll check it out. I'm in Wisconsin with snow on the ground still lol, it will be a while.

On another page ot Metzer's website, there is actually a feed conversion chart. You Plug in the protein of your current feed (if Flock Raiser, 20%) and how much of it you have. Then you plug in the protein of whatever you are adding (I chose rolled oats, 9,5% protein) and it tells you how much of the oats to mix in. I just used the amount to figure out a ratio, which for the 17.5% protein is 5 parts Flock Raiser: 2 Parts Oats
