NewB, first post, never had a chicken, wife and son want some

Allen,

Welcome to the land of chickens! One thing to keep in mind, if you go the day-old chick route, you will probably have something like 6 weeks before they need to be moved outside to the coop. I started building my coop the weekend before my 8 chicks arrived and had it mostly finished in time to move them out into it. There was still some winterizing that needed doing as well as some tweaking of the egg boxes and roosts, but since I was moving them outside in the summer, that didn't matter too much.

So, if they are "driving you crazy" you could always order the chicks right away.

Great progress! One thing I noticed that you might want to think about is the use of chicken wire. Chicken wire is designed to keep chickens in, but it won't keep predators out. It's really flimsy and a determined predator can rip right though it. I'd suggest investing in some welded wire/hardware cloth to keep your birds safe.
