Newbe from Wisconsin - Hello

Hello everyone. Just wanted to quickly introduce myself. I've just registered here on BYC, but have been lurking for a while now. I live here in the West Bend, WI area and am looking forward to learning from everyone on this site. My wife and I have been buying eggs from a local organic farmer for a few years now, but the farmer has recently decided to get out of the egg biz. We've considered raising chickens for a while now, so now is the perfect time to get started. I've built a small coop that I'll use to house 4 laying hens and I'll be building a portable hoop house soon to house another 20-25 meat birds. Now I just need to find a local bird source to fill my coops!

I appologize in advance, but as a chicken newbe, I'll have all sorts of questions!

Hi there!! And dare I say, "Uh-oh! You're in trouble already!" You only built a small coop? OOPS - I just noticed that you're going to do meat birds, too. I started off with only a small coop and now have 2 coops. I wished I would have built a huge coop to begin with, but oh well, now I have a coop for meaties, too. You are so gonna love them all!
