My eggs are do to hatch July 9. I washed the eggs yesterday and the hen will not set on the nest. The temp. is in the upper 90's to 100. Should I put a heating pad on the eggs? What should I do? I have been keeping a fan on her the last week. How do I check to see if I have live chicks?

Why did you wash the eggs? Did the hen poop on them? If so just a wipe over with a dry cloth would have been sufficient.

Someone with more experience will come along soon to give suggestions, I have only had broody's this spring, so a first time for me :)

you can dry wipe them the day you wont the hen to sit, after that don't wash them.
As far as checking the eggs, candle them, you can tell if they are fertile eggs,
I would give her a day ,if she didnt start sitting again, yes i would incubate them myself. good luck,an hope all turns out well for you.

I had four hatch. The remaining eggs were good but the heating pad was on med. instead of low, they roasted in the shell so sad. newbe
