Hi I have just joined the group and have had ex battery and free range hens for the last three years. Last year with the help of a broody hen hatched 6 chicks which was a great experience. I purchased some cream leg-bar eggs locally and was also given a 3 fertilized eggs from a friend from school. We now have two cream leg-bar cocks and one hen and two mixed breed hens. This was a great experience and I would like to have more chicks this season to maintain the flock. As the majority of eggs are sold to friends and family and I often have more requests than eggs. I could do with some hens that are not tailing off their egg production like the retired commercial girls.

I have started to look at incubators that hold 10+ eggs but I really could do with information from people like yourselves that have had experience with them and now which makes have worked well.

I look forward from hearing from you soon and learning more from this group.

Thanks,
Greenhen

I made my own but I know there was a thread here a short while ago that covered this. Just do a search on "incubators". Welcome to BYC and good luck!

I think the best advice is: the best incubator you can afford! Ebay and Craigslist often have good deals...I like cabinet incubators myself.

R-com 20
Brinsea Octogon 20 Advance Ex
GQF Genesis 1588 Hovabator.

You have to monitor the humidity in the Hovabator.

If you are going to be hatching a small amount of eggs, I would go with the Hovabator 1588. The more eggs you have in the incubator, the better the hatch rate. The temps and humidity levels are easier to maintain with more eggs. Good luck, and have fun!

As you can see everybody likes these incubators and they are all very good choices. Whatever you do steer clear very clear of the LG. this is not one you want to mess with, it is cheap !!! but not worth a plug nickle as most real hatchaholics will tell you. Hatching can be fun, rewarding, and time consuming you certainly don't want to invest your efforts in a cheap Chinese product.
The very best to you and your future hatching.

I'm getting a sportsman 1502 After much research on them. What price range are you looking for. I have a hovabator 1588 now and those are really good too if your looking for a cheaper one.

Totally agree on the LG...not work the money if you ask me.
