(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
(3) What breeds do you have?
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Sorry, these First 4 are pointless because I dont have any chickens. I love them, but I'm not sure I want to take on more animals/responsibilities....so I'm hear to learn.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Reading, light gardening, playing minecraft
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'm married, I homeschool my autistic teen, I have a dog, an inside cat, parakeets, many outdoor cats (feral), and I feed the wild birds. I'm in Louisiana and I hate the heat. LOL

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I get the emails and I think I see posts on facebook...but decided to come directly here to learn. Part of me wants chickens so badly, I love them. My husband is in love with blue eggs, so I thought MAYBE get chickens...LOL I'm SO on the fence!

Welcome! You came to the right place!

Chick days should be starting at the end of the month, and if you decide you want to get started with blue egg layers, many of the Tractor Supply or Rural King type places will have "Easter Eggers" available. They are basically mutt chickens lol but they lay various shades of blue and green eggs. That could be the perfect place to start!

You can also look into ordering online. Most hatchery websites will have a drop-down where you can choose blue egg layers, and they will show you what's available to ship.

Honestly, (as long as they are healthy), chickens are easy. One step above feral cats 😂 It's seriously just the setting up part, determining what you need for coop and run accommodations, and what to have on hand for basic upkeep like food and bedding.

I do recommend having that all in place before getting chicks though, because it's very easy to say, oh, they will be in the brooder for a while, I have plenty of time! And then 8 weeks start to roll around and you're like, someone please get these adorable creatures out of my house! 😅. Not speaking from experience or anything. 🙄 Hahha.

They are so fun though. Truly, nothing beats a nice chicken hug. ❤️❤️❤️ Andplusalso fresh eggs. ;)
