hello there I’m new to the chicken raising, I’m from Texas I ordered my chicks from a hatchery in Texas as chicks I got 9 female ..3 light Brahma, 3 laced Wyondotte, and 3 buff orpingtons. The hatchery has mentioned they may send a roo or two for warmth but they sent 7 extra I was assuming the extra were all Roos but I’m not sure I have looked up all the different ways to tell and since I’m new at this I’m still having a hard time they are about two months old now and I love them all so much they are so fun and I can’t wait to have some eggs the I only planned on keeping one rooster .. the extra they sent me were barred rock, I planned on keeping one of those and the rest I have someone interested in but now one of my brahmas is starting to look more like a roo then a hen especially in comparison to my other brahmas im gonna post pics and hope I can get some help... anyway thanks for all the great posts and hopefully these pics work.

The one I suspect to be a roo

Looks like you’re correct on the one you suspect to be a roo.
I’ve never had any barred rocks myself, but I’ve heard they are a lot like RIR’s in the comb department. Our Rhode Island Red, Susie, had a huge red comb, just like a rooster. So I would hold out for a little while and MAYBE you could have some barred girls :fl

:welcome!!!

Hi, it's nice to have you here!

7 packing peanuts is a lot! If you want more opinions on gender, you can post your pictures on this forum and have others take a look:

I like the idea of "wait and see"...sure wouldn't want to accidentally give one of your girls away.

Thanks for joining us, you have lovely birds!

It seems that you are correct on the sex. Your light Brahma in the top picture is a cockerel and both of the barred Rock pictures appear to be cockerels as well. Seven was a big extra! What hatchery were they purchased from? I am just asking so I can be cautious next time I order from just any hatchery.:D

Hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do!
