My name is Kay. I am just starting out. I have 6 chickens and 1 rooster. I bought a Tom turkey and 2 females. ( all Babies) All my turkeys died. So sad. I live on a farm with a few cows. I am retired and my husband will be retiring soon. We just do this as a hobby. I have 2 wonderful Great Danes. I would like to have free range chickens but we have a lot of foxes.
I am so glad I found "Backyard Chickens" so I can learn all about raising healthy chickens successfully.

Welcome, chickens are a wonderful hobby. So sorry you lost your turkey poults, so people have troubles raising them. Hopefully if you get more they thrive for you. They do need a bit more initial care than chickens but are generally easy to raise, and are a bit more interactive than chicks.

No more cows for us, what kind do you keep? Your dogs must be about the size of small cows too. Danes are a nice breed.

We keep Black Angus.

We keep Black Angus.
They are a rough and strong breed. Are yours tamed down? Or are they crazy wild. We used to occasionally raise half Angus out of our Holsteins, and they were crazy as far as handling, and restraining, and we're very dangerous when raised on the cow. Those bottle raised were big strong kittens, but even they were still a hand full.

Ours are cow raised and wild. We have one bottle fed that was a twin. His sister was born first and was much stronger and she wouldn't let her little brother nurse. I named him T-Bone and he is a sweetie! Even though he is grown now he still let's us love on him.
