I take it that you turn every twelve hours?

I do it around 8 am ...Then again around 5 pm. That is it. As long they move a little in a day. They will not stick. The more important is steady temp.

We haven't started any eggs yet. Probablely the end of Februrary. But I still have questions. With the styrofoam incubators, where do you put the hygrometer? Can I use one for reptiles? The products they sell specifically for certain animals seem way too much money when I can buy the same thing made for another animal a whole lot cheaper.

You want to use a reptile incubator for chicks, or a chicken egg incubator for reptiles? It sure seems like you could as long as it has the correct temperature range on thermostat.

What I mean is, there are products for reptiles( hygrometers, theremometers, heat pads, etc.) which are less expensive than the ones packaged for chicken incubators and brooders. Can I interchange these accessories?

I plan to try to do just that. I've got a thermostat on the way (Zoo Med ReptTemp 500R Thermostat Remote Sensor for Reptiles) that I am going to use in my incubator. I ordered it from Amazon after researching it on the internet. It should be here in the next day or so and I will let you know how it works out. I got tired of wrestling with the water heater thermostat! Hopefully this will be much better - especially since the box is set up outside the incubator and I won't have to open the incubator to make any adjustments.
