I just hatched 6 new BO chicks today....one of them (the largest oddly enough) can't stand up. I cannot see any immediately noticeable defects or deformities and he is "cheeping" like crazy. He must be out of the egg 10 hours +/-, he is pretty well dry. I still have 3 in there that are wet so I don't want to open the 'bator just yet. Anyone have any experience with this? Ideas? Thanks

Mrs.Puff :

He could have spraddle leg. Give him a little while and check him out when you open the bator.

Mrs Puff....as a "newbie" myself, can you tell what spraddle leg is (how do i tell) and what can be done about it please ma'am??

I just had a baby with the same problem, chirping like crazy but laying around. I put her back in the incubator for the night and this morning she was up and getting around just fine. If you do not want to put her back in, just let her relax, but 10 hours is a long time not to be up and walking yet. I would try sticking her back in the incubator for a while and checking on her now and then until she is up. If she starts looking wet or getting hot I would remove her and just hope for the best.
