Hi, I inherited 29, {25 remain,} chickens recently. I don`t know breeds but they are happy. Most seem too young but I get a few eggs. I live in a wild area and had to "neutralize" a few raccoons. I lost 4 chickees, very sad, The birds free range in daytime, locked up at night, except 5 of them roosting in trees. I`m ok w/all this. I had pigeons decades ago so I have some familiarity w/coops, and bird thinking. I have cats but there`s lots of space here so they avoid each other. I saw a fox a few times but he/she must be too fearful to return, after I worked to hunt him/her, it got some of my chickees early on, one mother hen. That was hard. I`m here for listening to advice, maybe find out about getting a few more hens. I have too many cocks but w/the space and them being out all day it`s been manageable so far. { I call them all "chickees" and whistle to check in w/them, it`s been so much fun} thx, Charlie

Losses are part of nature, but you took care of it like a great flock owner! :woot
I agree that extra roosters are not always an issue. My main roo won’t let anyone touch the hens.
Don’t fret about winter, temperatures are not an issue. Ventilation is good, drafts are bad. Snow isn’t water, and that’s about it. Get yourself some cows and goats, and post lots of pictures! :highfive:
