We are new this year to raising chicken. In July (2022) we finally took the plunge and bought 6 chicks from our nearby farm store. We bought 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Sapphire Gems, and 2 Eggers. They turned 23 weeks yesterday. As we researched we came across BackYard Chickens on multiple occasions and saw the community support offered and decided to join the group. So, thanks to all of you who share your experiences and for the kind support you offer!

We just got our first (little) egg - and it is OLIVE! So, one of our flock is an Olive Egger, and I am very happy for that! Time will tell what color the other Egger will lay - she and the two Sapphires are exhibiting the tell-tale squatting behavior, so I guess they will being laying soon.View attachment 3357594

Having backyard chickens is such an enjoyable experience. Every day their peculiar antics make us laugh out loud. Watching them grow, adapt to new environs, and having them "talk" to us has been an unexpected joy. Both of us are retired and are blessed with plenty of time to dedicate to the flock, and are slowly increasing other homesteading endeavors.
