Newbie coop owner

hey everyone I’m Jess from The Florida space coast. I am soooo excited I finally was able to get my very own coop and get it set up today. Hubby just took me out and we got 4 ten week olds. My only thing is that I am checking them constantly so nothing can get to them... mainly the neighborhood cats. Can’t wait to get to know you all and look forward to the chatter

Wish you would put your location in your avatar for all to know where you are. Anyway, hope you have as much fun with your flock as we are with ours, only down side is the time you will want to give to them!!!

Hi, again, ex neighbor!!! Good job on the location. You said you are worried about cats, how are you protecting the girls? We have a 30# dog that loves to chase any and all cats so that is not one of our concerns, but we do have others.

Our yard is fully fenced but we still have the coop and run fenced in on it’s own with hardware cloth buried about 10 inches down so if a cat would dig it would have to go at least that deep.

Hi Jess, Welcome to Backyard chickens. Cats and other predators will always find a way. You need a Ft.knox of a coop and covered run.
