Newbie, first hatch, pipping then nothing

i'm still watching that speck. Now seeing specks forming on two eggs. Since i've never seen a pip before, i don't know how long it takes for them to break through.

i've got that cd playing of baby bird sounds and peeking in the window every couple of minutes. Thinking probably not a good thing to be shining a bright flashlight on them, so stopping that.

i'll let you know as soon as i see something definitive. This is exhausting, though.

I dunno, but i am paying wicked attention as july 4 is my day 21.......i think mine could start too so i need to know all this stuff. You should be taking picture to show me what to be looking for.

here is a pic I took as 1 was hatching & the other one is pipped.

WOW.......i wish mine would start. One of mine was under a broody hen.....but not from her clutch......she musta got up and another chick layed an egg in with hers....so it was unsure if she had begun the process early for me. So i have been looking for 4 days now just in case it was early. I am going crazy.......the anticipation is so stressful. what are yours?

Day 24 - i swear yesterday i saw teeny movements in the surface of the eggs, then nothing. This morning i am again seeing teeny movements on the eggs. i tried to take a picture, but it is so small that nothing really shows up. A couple of the eggs have very small (and i mean tiny) pieces that are chipped out. But no one has broken out a significant piece.

i don't know if i'm going insane or seeing the early stages of pipping. Wait! i think i see a pip coming out of my computer screen!

It's true, i have gone insane. That's what no sleep, no food, and staring at 29 eggs 24 hours a day will do to you.

By the way, i've got 12 Ameraucana eggs and the rest are assorted silkies. My second batch in the other incubator are all silkies and due to hatch this coming Sunday.

Any progress on your eggs, Lurky?

Colleen

No......I see the egg jolt every now and then.......and like you, i begin to think i am going insane. I try peeping so they will think they are missing all the fun and hurry to get out........but still nothing. I hope you get some action soon as you are running out of time. I just realized my day 21 is tomorrow. I was getting confused because i put 2 blue eggs in and marked it on the calender. Then 2 days later i put the 2 green in and did not mark it down....just figured it'll be 2 days later. Well the blue did not develop and i tossed them a week ago. So i am going by the date on the calender, but these were a few days later........Whew! So i can relax a little for now.
Did you end up with 2 hatched completely now? Whats going on?

Colleen... DON'T turn off your incubator or open it up. If the temp and humidity is are right, they may just be late. I'd give them every chance before you give up and, once you do, are you going to open them to see what happened? I always open mine as I just have to know how far the chick developed. Probably a rather sick thing to do but not knowing would drive me nuts. I'm really pulling for your chicks!!!

Ellen, its not sick.......I would think some could have just had a tough time breaking the shell and wonder if opening it soon enough they might live. I totally agree with you.

I use a sportsman bator, on day 22 i break open the pipped eggs. I just cracked open 3 eggs on my guinea eggs that I had in bator. And they are doing fine. Got 20 so far LOL . Humidity and heat are the key factors for a good hatch.
