Hi,
I've been reading the forum quite a bit lately and already have lots of new ideas to incorporate into our poultry systems for next year. I finally decided to sign up so that I can post as well.
We have a farm near Lloydminster, Alberta, Canada and currently have:
4 barred plymouth rock
4 red sussex hens
9 white leghorn hens
4 ameraucana X hens
1 white auraucana rooster
1 sicilian buttercup rooster
1 mille fleur rooster
35 cornish cross
22 embden geese
8 pekin ducks
8 rouen ducks
10 bronze turkeys
7 white nicholas turkeys
I think that's all the poultry anyway. We are in the process of thinning the birds out for the winter, so these numbers are constantly changing. This year we raised 300 cornish cross. Almost all of our poultry are raised in chicken tractors on self-mixed feed. Next year I would like to move towards more of a dual-purpose flock, testing out a few of the different DP breeds to see which works best in our system. Long term I'd like to experiment with crosses to reduce reliance on purchasing day-old chicks from the hatchery each year. That being said, if anyone knows how I can get my hands on some purebred white cornish, let me know.
Alex
