Still waiting for that first egg :-(. But when it comes I will post a picture 'cause this is probably the only place where people will understand my excitement :-)

Yes, that first egg is so EGG-citing!! And we DO understand how exciting it really is! Even though we have found our first egg from our first flock, we still get all egg-cited when one of our new birds lay their first egg. And I have to say even years later, I still really enjoy finding those treasures in the nest boxes.

Good luck and we will be awaiting your first egg too!

Still no eggs :-( The waiting is killing me! I had to laugh though - after 3 days they still weren't venturing outside so I finally picked one up and put her in the opening and she squawked, looked around, bock-bocked and then happily went outside. I had to do that with 4 more before they figured out that the hole with daylight coming through led to outside. They aren't the smartest beasts in the food chain, are they? Sure are sweet, though.

The combs look red, but they looked red when I got them so maybe they are just pink? I just went out and put up a 2x4 with the 4" side up on their roosting pole .... it came with the 2" side up and by most of the info on this site it looks like that was too narrow. When I put two birds up on it they actually stayed instead of falling off, so hopefully that will help :-)

Yes, for larger breed chickens, the 4 side needs to be up. Bantam birds however, can handle the 2 side up. :-)

Keep watching for those eggs!
