I am new to chickens, I just got my chicks almost two weeks ago

Currently I have 4 chicks, I started with six, one died two days ago, I don't know why, she just didn't thrive. And about 45 minutes ago, I lost one by drowning.

I have two RIR, one Brown Leghorn and one Barred Plymouth Rock left.

I found out about BYC by googling "raising chickens" since then, I have been obsessed.

Other hobbies are, knitting, sewing, cooking, and playing with my children and grandchildren

I have been happily married for 30 years to my childhood sweetheart. I have five children and six grandchildren, one Cockateal, one Jack Russel Terrier, and one Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix.

I am a hairstylist by trade and have been doing it out of my garage while being a stay-at-home Mom. I feel that I am ready to move out to the country, but will have to surrender to the fact that I am stuck in the city. That is one reason why I am starting to raise chickens.

I would like to thank all who have posted their experiences here. You have been so helpful.

Welcome from New Hampshire! I'm sorry about your losses so far. Watch out for your dogs. Most people have their first losses to dogs.
I spend way too much time on BYC.

from San Diego!! Sorry you've lost some chicks. Handle the remaining ones a lot if you really want them as pets. I have too many to handle all regularly but I have my favorites and love when they come running to me. They're so much fun!! You'll enjoy them and the grand kids will love collecting eggs.....actually, so will you!
