Newbie from central NY

Good morning!

I'm glad I found this forum, it looks to be a really nice community, and exactly what I need to prepare for chickens. DH and I have decided that it's time for some chickens.. so I thought I'd do some research before we get them, definetely a new approach

I am hoping to buy the birds locally, and would prefer pullets to baby chicks. I welcome any and all advice on everything, from housing to where to buy chickens and supplies. I'm looking for egg breeds, and was planning on starting with 6 birds, or so, including a rooster.
We're in CNY, west of Oswego, in a very rural area.

we got our 6 from Deatons in Pulaski, 6 chicks & 2 turkeys. rooster is on order. all are healthy & growing fast. Very helpful staff there.

From Dutchess county NY. You have found undoubtedly the best place for chicken info. As for Deaton's, I have never heard of them.
