Newbie from Conn. hello!

hello everyone!
I've been lurking for a week or so, and finally decided to join in.

My husband and I just bought property that we are getting ready for a barn and to move our horse home
with us.

It's going to sound funny, but a year ago, we bought our horse and moved him to a barn that has chickens, i am scared of chickens! well was..
I'm really not brave enough to pick one up yet, but now when they come running to the car to greet me i'm ok with it and will pet them
then they play follow the leader with me to the barn and we get our chores done.
Our horse loves the chickens, and now i am really wanting to get chickens for our new farm to be. Just know nothing about
chickens really, so i have lots to learn.
You all seem very nice here and please excuse me if i ask stupid questions, i just want to make sure that i can properly
care for my chickens when the time comes.

I' also love that you have a crafting forum, I LOVE crafts, i sew like a maniac (no clothing please-reminds me how short i am-haha)
i also embroider(machine) quilt, make cards and crochet, and love photography (you will be inundated i'm sure with pics when i get chickens)

Next time you get close to one put both hands on its back and slide your hands under it covering wings close to its body so they wont flap and enjoy holding a chicken...just do it! Be like NIKE! You will be hooked...I was leery at first but now I hold chickens all the time!

Just remember not to let the chicken get too close to eyes or earrings- the love shiny things and are very curious! It wonderful to hold them, and also very important in determining if they are maintaining a good body weight.
