I think the roosters in his last flock got them. My other rooster didn’t help things.

My leghorns did that once to a legbar rooster they were raised with. Only the barred feathers (they left the long white feathers alone lol) Then they yanked his crest out but they never let it grow back.

Yeah, I see it as impossible but I still do what I can. I don't completely avoid packaged food, but mostly I cook whole foods, can my own broths and marinara, make sourdough bread. But I don't have endless time and energy.

I make sourdough bread too! However, since my family prefers a softer crust for sandwiches, I have been cheating on my sourdough starter lately with dry active yeast. Please don’t tell her!

Already have snow on the ground and ya high winds so feels quite a bit colder then it is. Noon Tuesday before it gets back to above freezing.
Where's that Spring?

Winter is getting one last hoorah I guess. Right when my hydrangeas were starting to wake up. No early flowers from them yet again this year. The cold will kill back the tender buds.

The wind is blowing up heck here in KY with at least one confirmed tornado somewhere in the state. The storm is heading in my direction so my anxiety has me up late prepping pie crusts for the turkey pot pies. I’m afraid to go to bed with such a severe storm looming. By tomorrow at 2 its supposed to be snowing. This is ridiculous..

We eat all the bad ones now. Most of my roosters are very well behaved, even the Gamecocks. I do have one Sussex I am keeping my eye on. He is about to get an attitude adjustment.

That must be the secret to a softer crust lol I used to make sourdough bread and you could thump it pretty hard and not make a dent
