Newbie from Florida

Hello everyone! My husband and I became first time chicken parents last month, so I decided to join BYC for the tips and hopefully connect with other chicken owners in FL. We bought our first home in Union County last year and we're very grateful to finally have our own yard space to keep a few hens for fresh eggies. I have fond memories of helping my great granny with her chickens when I was little, but I never thought I'd be able to have my own!

We currently have 5 pullets (hopefully!) that we picked up from a nearby hatchery and they're now 7 weeks old. We have an EE, a French BCM, a barred rock, a lavender orpington, and a silver lakenvelder. I may have to post a pic of the BCM soon because I'm still not fully convinced she's a pullet (hubby thinks she is). We experienced some heartache very early on when we lost our 6th chick who was a sweet little Polish :hit I think it was simply failure to thrive since she wasn't growing much at all compared to her sisters, but I found a LOT of helpful info on BYC that kept me pushing to do what I could for her during her final days. The rest are doing well though and will be going into their new coop TOMORROW as soon as the finishing touches are done, thank sweet baby Cheezus!

A little about me: I'm a stay-at-home cat and chickie mama, my husband is a machinist by trade and an excellent coop builder. I've been dealing with a lot of health issues for the last few years and I think having chickens will help keep me active and enjoying the outdoors and sunshine more often....although I'm not sure how cleaning up poop helps with the healing process?? Ahh well, that's okay! Looking forward to learning and laughing with you guys! :D
Welcome to BYC!!
