Newbie from Georgia

Welcome to the coop! I use the Forums and Articles tabs at the top of the page to do research. You can get lost for hours. It's nice to know you are minutes away from getting help with questions and emergencies! I always check in the "What's New" section as well at the top of this page. This way I can read how I may have a similar question or help give some advice.

HI! I am from Georgia (northern suburbs of Atl)....We are first time chicken owners (All hens) and have had them for 8 months. We bought them as newly hatched last June. We ordered 6 but got 8 so we have 2 Buffs, 2 rhode island reds, 2 australorps, and 2 golden comets. I wanted them for the fresh eggs, and my husband fought me on it every step of the way. But we got them, and I have to say they are closest to him and he has absolutely fallen in love with all of them and does as much or more with them as me. I never thought of chickens as cute...actually a little creepy....and never thought of them having personalities and stuff but I have fallen in love also. They are sweet, and funny and all such different personalities. We found our setups for when they had to be in the house from a girl on youtube, and I would do it the exact same way as last time and the outdoor area we made for them has been awesome. I think they are very happy. We have 3 large dogs, one was a puppy when we got them and he seems to like them, when he was little they would crawl on him, the german shepherd does not acknowledge them at all...doesn't avoid them but just could care less, and our last one we think is hoping for a "farm to table meal" lol. She is totally on alert mode with them since we got them, she licks her lips and seems to be in prey drive when she sees them, although now she will run to their pen and look at them then go away, but I have 0 confidence in what may happen if she had access to them. We tried some when they were little to have her watch while we pet them, let her sniff and try to get her not be so alert but that has not happened yet. When people make comments about how lucky we are because of egg prices, he laughs and says yeah, right now we are probably at $300 a dozen lol. They have not been cheap, the starting set up, then the outside set up, coop, the heater etc was high, but now only real expense has been food and snacks.
Welcome to BYC!!
