(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chicken? I got my first 5 chickens (juveniles) in late May from Murray McMurry Hatcherie.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? 9. This past week I had the opportunity to pick up a good deal on an Omlet along with 4 chickens that are approximately 16-18 weeks old.
(3) What breeds do you have? In my original 5 from Murray McMurray I have 3 Barred Rock and 2 Silver Laced Wyandottes. My new additions include another Barred Rock, a really sweet Buff Orpington and two others, that I have been told by a friend who probably knows, a lovely Rhode Island Red and a variety of Old English, Carlisle I think, and most likely a rooster. I will be trying to confirm that on this forum.
(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com? Various publications along the way.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? Sailing, RV travels (I know, but our neighbors have chickens and will watch ours while we are gone), reading (mostly about chickens right now), and family and grandchildren activities.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. My husband and I are both newly retired, we have a Petit Basset Griffon Vandeen and two cats. We live on 11 acres - 3 in prairie, 2 in maintained lawn and 6 in wetlands. I've always loved the idea of chickens (and I love fresh eggs, we eat a lot of them) and I now have time to see if the fantasy equals the reality!
