Im very new to chickens. Almost complete with building my coop and run. Im looking to start off with 3 chickens. The coop is being build with 6 nesting areas if I want to increase up to 6 chickens. Since Im in the North East I was thinking of Road Island Reds but open for to your input. I cannot have any Roosters in my town. So only Hens. I found this site while doing my research on types of chickens to get and what I needed in my chicken coop.

! Pleased you joined us and entered the poultry universe. You might also consider a mixed flock for variety! Below are a couple links you might find useful. Good luck and have fun with your flock!

Hens tend to use the same nest boxes, even to the point of climbing on top of the current occupant. So even half that number of boxes will be plenty for your chickens.
