Hello, all!
I'm a newbie to chickens period! I discovered yesterday I can actually have chickens where I live. I was directed to this site from a friend on another blog. I live in a small town, where I live on the very edge. On the north, south, and west I have neighbors (close) and the east side is country.
I want to build a small coop attached to the backside of the shed with a yard beyond that. I plan to have maybe 6-8 laying hens only, I just want pets that can provide eggs for us (2) and my mother.
We also have 2 grandchildren (and another due in September) who will love the chickens!! As I've been looking in the last 12 hours there are many different breeds that have many different personalities and laying personalities as well!! I have absorbed alot of information in these past 12 hours!! (Well, I did sleep in there, too!!)
But as perusing the vast amount of information, I believe I should start this endeavor by building my coop and yard, then buy hens that are ready to start laying?
I look forward to learning much about my latest addiction........
